Oral Cancer Exam

We’ll make sure that your mouth is healthy and cancer free during an oral cancer exam.

Oral cancer is a disease resulting from abnormal cell growth in the mouth, lips, tongue or throat. It can affect both men and women of any age. It can appear as white or dark red patches in your mouth, or on your lips or tongue or as lumps or changes in the texture or colour of the mouth tissues. It is rarely associated with pain or soreness, which is why regular dental exams are so important. Your oral cancer exam with be both visual and tactile. That means we will feel along your jaw, glands and tissues, especially along the lips and floor of the mouth. The tongue is also a common site for cancers.

If you have any concerns about a sore in your mouth that does not heal on its own within two weeks, it’s wise to come in and have it examined.

And we routinely check for oral cancer during your maintenance visits!
