Treatment of Gum Disease

Gum health and body health go hand in hand. We’ll help you reduce and eliminate the bacteria build up in tooth pockets that cause gum disease.

”Gum disease is one of the main reasons why adults lose their teeth. But the good news is gum disease can almost always be prevented. If it starts, it can be treated and can even be turned around (or reversed) in its early stages.” (Canadian Dental Association).  Patients who are more prone to gum disease (smokers, those with a family history of gum disease, diabetics, etc) should be seeing their hygienist every 3-4 months. This will ensure the root surfaces are kept clean, and the harmful bacteria kept to a minimum.

Your hygienist will also work with you to ensure you are knowledgeable about ‘problem areas’ and how to best clean these areas at home.

If you have teeth/gums that are sensitive to ‘cleaning’ we have a number of alternatives to make your visit more comfortable. Everyone’s needs and concerns are different and we’re here to listen and help. Perhaps you need some oral sedation, some topical anaesthetic, subgingival anaesthetic, localized ‘freezing’, or just a medicament applied to the root surface of the tooth. Some clients prefer ultrasonics to hand instruments or visa versa. Let us know your preference. We’re here to help.
